The Stork is coming to visit!

No, not to my house, but to my best friend's son's house. She called me this evening and was very upset about it. I personally would be so excited, I wouldn't be able to stay in my skin if my daughter or son was having a baby. Preferably my daughter, simply because she is more stable in her life than my son.

But my friend was very upset. Her son is 25, works for the Sheriff's department as a deputy and is VERY responsible. Granted he doesn't make much money, but hey! If everyone waited till they could 'afford' to have a family, no-one every would. You just make do. We have all done it.

Anyway, I tried to talk to my buddy to let her know she needed to support her son in his own joy and not bring him down, but she was so upset about it, that I don't think she really heard me. I don't know what to say to someone who is not absolutely overjoyed about having a grandchild. I have prayed and prayed that my daughter would have a child soon. She wants a family and so does her husband, but it just ain't happening!

I could understand her getting upset if this kid was 18 and got his girlfriend pregnant, but that is not the case. Granted they are not married, but they are both adults and have been together for quite a while. She has another child too and my friend's son is serving as a step-father to him and doing quite well at it. So what do I say? I have known this woman for 31 years and was there when SHE gave birth to her son and she was there when I gave birth to my son. We met just after my daughter was born. We have been so close for 31 years and yet we are as different as night and day. I just want her to enjoy this part of her life without closing the door on it before it gets opened good.

Ok, I think my best bet is just to love her like always and let her be upset until she decides to enjoy this time of her life. In the meantime, I will just listen to her rant and rave about it. :-)

Peace!

Nothing to say really
Nothing new going on today, so there's not a whole lot to say. Still unpacking this box and that box. Emptied about 20 boxes so far and thrown away untold amounts of junk. Giving lots of stuff to my niece for a garage sale.

Mom is doing ok, but we still need to finish her den area. She just told me she doesn't like to go in there, because it is messy. Well, that's because we just yesterday got her shelves put in one of her closets (my brother did that for her) so that she can put stuff away in there. Tomorrow maybe we will be able to get that done for her.

I ordered a new bedspread and window dressing for my guest room. Got it in today, but don't have the bed in there to put it on. Bed is still in the storage unit in front of the house. Waiting my turn.

Tom finally started burning a lot of the trash we have collected in wrapping stuff for boxes, paper from the floors during the sheetrock work, painting etc. Magazines that come by the dozens in the mail everyday. Not the kind you want to read, like Better Homes and Gardens, or Red Book, but rather, sales magazines, Lane Bryant, Brylane Home, etc. They must spend a fortune on postage since they mail a new one out at least once a week if not more. TONS!

I know, I said nothing to say today, so good night.

Has it really been a week?
Gosh, how time flies when you're having fun! Mom and have been very busy this week. We have been unpacking all her stuff and hanging pictures, moving furniture around, decorating her bathroom (animal print). It's cute. Even Tom was excited about how it looked. I only have a few things left to hang and then I will be finished with her end of the house. I broke two of her little wall decorations yesterday and I felt so bad about it I didn't know what to do. They were two little owls that she had made herself in ceramics back in 1978. Damn! Damn! Damn!

We have had a week filled with doctor's appointments as well. Mom has a bone marrow disorder called Polycythemia vera. It can cause acute lukemia. We had to go to the doctor twice this week for them to try to draw off a pint of blood to be discarded because it is too thick. It can't be used for anything. They couldn't get it on the first day they tried, so she had to drink lots of water and go back the next day to try again. It worked. And it actually made her feel more energetic. Good! Now we go back in 2 weeks for them to draw another pint for discard.

They also did a bunch of blood tests and will give us results of that when we go back. There are some lung tests she has to do too. Her red blood count was very high which is why her blood was so thick. She said she didn't realize she was so lethargic, caused by thick blood, until after that was drawn and she started to have more energy. Poor Mom.

We have actually managed the week without getting on each other's nerves too much. I have been really tired and cranky a couple of days, but I have tried to have patience with her. And she got aggravated with me a couple of times, one of which was today. I slept most of the day, because I was just plain TIRED. She was irritated because she was by herself and thinking of all the things that could be done while all I was doing was sleeping. I needed the sleep and then I was able to get some things accomplished after I finally woke up.

Tom has been working hard this week and is very tired and cranky too. We have been asking him to do a lot when he gets home and he is worn out. I wish he could just take about a month off from work and help to get this house back in order, so he wouldn't wear himself out trying to do it all. He hasn't been able to mow grass in about 6 weeks. It's really getting high too. It's like a jungle out there. Oh well, there is nothing we can do about it right now. It would take him 2 full days to get just that mowing done.

I love my new flooring. 18 x 18" tiles. LOVE EM! They are very light grayish with brown marbley looking squiggles in them. Very pretty. It goes great in our home and really brightens it up. I did put carpet in two of the bedrooms and it is called 'wild mushrooms' and it's that color. One day I'll put up pictures. But it will be when EVERYTHING is finished. We still have fans to put up, light fixtures to put up. A cabinet in the bathroom needs to be purchased and put up, etc. etc. and we also still have to move all the furniture back in the house. Most of it is still in those storage units out front. I will be glad to get rid of THOSE things too.

Well, that's about all the news for today. Later people!

Mom has arrived!

Well folks, after weeks and months of planning, selecting an area of our home for her to be comfortable, lots of moving of furniture and boxes, etc. SHE'S HERE! My brothers, my son-n-law, and Tom all worked really hard this past weekend and Monday and Tuesday to get her moved in. After taking care of some personal business and staying with my brother nearby, she is finally home with us. I am glad to have her and I hope she will be happy.

We are a few boxes closer to having our house back in order today. There are only about 472 boxes left now. LOL One time today Mom said, "does anyone know where the box with the light bulbs is?" Tom and I just started laughing. She said "what's so funny?" Tom said, "we have been wondering where stuff is for almost a year now, so we have no idea where the light bulbs are!" We did find them a few minutes later, but it was funny. I guess you had to be there.

After laying approximately 1500 square feet of 18 x 18" tiles in my home, I find out you have to seal the grout....... Do the tiles installers do this? NO! Somehow I just can't pictures myself scooting around on the floor with a tiny paint brush brushing sealer into every crack of grout! That is one huge load of grout, let me tell you! But I have to do something, Tom has already stained the 'light gray' grout with tea right in front of the refrigerator. DAMN! Men! What can you do with them? I did find out there is a spray sealer and I am going to try using that. Maybe I can just seal the high traffic areas and try not to worry about all the places UNDER furniture that has already be placed back in the house. I can't see moving all this again. NO, NOPE, NOT ME, NOT NOW, NOT ANYTIME! NO! NOT DOIN' IT! Well, maybe.

Off again, On again!
Well, I'd better be glad I got some rest afterall; once my brother got his hands in things, things started moving along fast on my Mom's end. So in just a little while, her stuff will start coming in the house. She's moving in today!

I am glad Mom is moving here and I am glad we are getting it over with. My brother decided he would pin down the lady that was holding Mom up and put it to her, like, 'you give me a down payment on the trailer today, or I am putting it up for sale'! Well, she came up with the down payment immediately and is supposed to finish paying this coming Friday or loose her down payment AND the trailer. Just let Frank (my brother) handle it. He won't take any crap like Mom will.

So David (my other brother) came from north Louisiana to help pack Mom up and move her stuff in here and he is taking a shitload of her stuff back to his house for my nephew who will be starting his first home of his own very soon. So he will start of with dishes, pots and pans, sofa, etc. etc. etc.

Heather and Allen have been here since yesterday. Allen has helped Tom put up all the crown and shoe moldings and Heather has helped me vacuum and mop. That has been a tremendous help to both of us. We were overwhelmed to say the least. I will post pics as soon as things get settled and I can find my camera! LOL
