Bazaar events....
I realize this is long, but I have a lot to say, so please bear with me.

There was a bazaar series of events starting with Bubba, my children's father and my ex-husband, riding his bicycle on a major highway in Baton Rouge. He was apparently the victim of a hit and run in late October. He had a severe closed brain injury and never fully recovered from that. He had been in the hospital for several weeks and then was moved to a nursing facility. From there he had to be transported by ambulance, on November 24th, to another hospital. He quietly passed away November 25th. He was apparently unable to speak after the accident, so we only know what information we are getting second and third hand.

We were never notified that he that he had been injured or that he was in the hospital. On Monday a friend of Bubba's called the nursing facility to check to see how he was doing and found out he had passed away. She then tracked down his elderly aunt who contacted an old family friend, who tracked me down through my place of employment. No one seemed to know very much other than the fact that he had been involved in this accident and that he had died, so I started my own investigation.

I was able to finally find out where he was and that his body had been released by the Coroner's office to a crematorium. Since Bubba was considered indigent and had no family available as far as the Coroner's office knew, they were authorized to cremate the body and store the ashes. They had planned to cremate him Monday night, but I was able to stop that until the children were notified.

I informed the kids Monday night. They have made some phone calls themselves now and have found that he is eligible for a full Military funeral as he was a Veteran of the Air Force. The Veteran's Administration will pay for most of the costs of burying his ashes in the National Cemetary in this State, including a marker, plot, full Presidential service and so on. Thank God for that.

The kids have been very strong about it all, and the fact that he has had very little contact with them since the were small children helps them to better accept his death. They are, however, dealing with their individual issues where their father is concerned. But they are in agreement as to what to do when his ashes are delivered back to the coroner's office.

My feelings are that it is sad that Bubba died in a hospital alone and that no-one in his family ever knew he was there or that he had been injured, but that is the way he lived his life for the most part. We have received his only belongings which included his wallet and a satchel holding his service papers and pictures of the children and family members, cards the kids had sent him many years ago, and other various momentos.

We should all be grateful that we don't live like he lived and that our lives and all our memories are not reduced to a wallet and a satchel. But then maybe that is a simpler way of life. We wouldn't be carrying around all the baggage we carry. Something to think about.

Please keep the kids in your thoughts and prayers as they traverse this road they have been given. And let's honor ALL our current troops and our veterans with a prayer for their safety, the love and support of their families, and peace, for which they work so hard.

Let's Roll.

Tom took me for a ride!

Wake up Cinnie, wake up. Let's go for a ride! He's excited. It's 5:10 am!!!!!, I say. You want to go for a ride? Yes, he says, let's go see some deer. I know where they are. I yawn.... Ok, I'll get up. And I roll out of bed.

Now it's 6:00 am and we are in the car traveling toward Hwy 422, north of Clinton. It's a foggy morning, quiet, serene, beautiful. Normal people are still sleeping, there are hardly any cars on the road. It's seems we are alone in this quiet world.

We pass fields of cows, and they look at us as if to say, "what are you doing out here this early in the morning?". They seem perturbed with us that we would be invading their breakfast time. One of them, Miss 529, was very close, frowning at me....You see her picture above.

And then, we see them. Three deer. There are only three this morning. Their photo is above. Tom says there are usually 7 deer and about 11 wild turkeys. Today there are no turkeys, but the deer are there. They are so beautiful, standing together just at the edge of the treeline, watching us to make sure we don't come any nearer. Pretty soon, they turn and casually disappear into the woods.

Happy Thanksgiving!
We had a very nice day for Thanksgiving. We always go to Tom's sister-n-law's relatives house with them. We have been doing that for about 15 years. It's nice. I can make my eggs and maybe another dish and go eat and come home and take a nap. I don't have to worry about clean up or anything like that. I get to do all that for Christmas.

Anyway, there are usually about 60 to 80 people having dinner there. We don't know very many people, but that's ok. We meet new people every year and we have watched some of the younger ones grow up from little kids to having kids themselves now. It's amazing to watch them grow.

Maybe within the next couple of years I will have grandkids to watch grow. I am hoping! Well, I am still sort of drowsy from eating all that turkey, so I am going to bed early. Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Thanksgiving EVE
People are running around, hustling and bustling, trying to get their last minute items for their Thanksgiving Dinners. Why do people wait to the last minute? I was even crazy enough to enter the hysteria. Did I say crazy? INSANE!!!!

Ashley decided, at the last minute to cook dinner at his house because he didn't want to go with us this year. So here we go, trying to find a turkey that is already defrosted (you know they take about 2 to 3 days to defrost). That was an impossibility. But we were able to get everything he needed to cook his dinner. More insanity!

So I get home and have to cook dinner for ourselves and Heather & Allen. I also had to get deviled eggs done, which is what I am required to bring to the Thanksgiving Dinner tomorrow. Well, now I have 50 deviled eggs done, dinner cooked. I've told Ash how to cook certain things, and now I'm ready to sit on my a.......; well you know.

Gobble, gobble!

Future Days!

I found a Cirque de Soleil show coming up in March that I want to go to. It is located in Houston at the Toyota Center (whatever that is).

It is called Delirium. I told Brett about it and he said he would like to go too. I am going to talk to Tom about it and see if we can go when it comes up. We need to buy tickets VERY SOON though. It looks like it will be a really big one. They describe it as being as big as two football fields. Wow! Where do you sit to get a great view of TWO football fields.

These photos are just a sampling of the many masks worn by the characters in the show. And here is a hat too. I just love the excitement of these shows! I have officially become enthralled with them. I want to see every one as there are several different ones. As you can see the colors are vivid and the characters are well, sometimes very odd looking. There was a creature in the one we saw Friday night, that I thought was beautiful. It was on stilts and dressed in black with colors swirled everywhere in black light colors. Awesome! I am excited, can you tell?

Since Wednesday

It's been a very busy weekend starting Thursday evening. I spent the night at the hospital with a friend who'd had major surgery. She was quite entertaining since she was pretty doped up on pain killers and nausea meds. She was telling me all sorts of crazy stuff that made absolutely no sence at all, but it was funny. She is at home now and doing much better. I may have to have that same surgery, so I want to see how she recovers for more than one reason. Our backs are about the same.

Anyway, Friday night, my Mom, our friend, Brett, and Tom and I went to see Cirque Dreams. It was FANTASTIC! I just loved every minute of it. Here are some pictures that I have found around the 'net to show you.

I want to go see another one of the Cirque shows. The colors are so beautiful and the black light effects. You can see from the pictures that the characters are also very colorful. There are a lot of acrobats, dancing, ballet moves, etc. etc. It was wonderful! Tom really liked it too. He kept talking about it after we left, so I know he enjoyed the whole show. The strength and agility of all the characters was phenomenal!
I am so glad we went. So if you have to opportunity to go see one or any of the Cirque de Soliel shows, GO SEE IT. YOU WILL BE AMAZED and TOTALLY ENTERTAINED!!!!!!

Enjoy your day!

Wednesday morning visuals!
Lots of times, when I am on my way to work, I see some magnificent sunrises as well as other things. Like today, there was a full moon on the west side of the sky and a beautiful black and white sunrise (very unusual) on the east side. Here is a picture of the black and white sunrise. This photo was taken about 6:30 am this morning. I thought it was so pretty I just had to share it with everyone. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I wanted to take a picture of the full moon, but could never get in the right position to take that picture. Sorry. It sure was pretty though, I hope you did get to see it yourself.

I am very busy here at work. Since my co-worker has been ill, I am taking a lot of her load and it keeps me very busy. But that is a good thing really. I enjoy being busy. It keeps me more dependable, too, because I feel like I NEED to be here to take care of things. Before, I really didn't feel like it was important for me to show up at work because I really didn't have very much to do. Boy! there are no days like that now!

Time is really flying by too. Now, I only have 9 months left to work before I can retire. It seems like just yesterday I had 18 months left. WOW! Getting close now! WOOHOOOO!

Just thinking today!
Remember the person I was talking about last week? The one that causes me so much pain? Well, he/she had not contacted me since that day and it was such a relief for several days although I was on pins and needles waiting for that inevitable call. But then....it didn't come......I got worried.

I began to wonder whether or not that person is alive or dead. I tend to wonder that when I don't hear from him/her. I HATE THIS!!!! I finally broke down and called last night to check. He/she is alive but I know the addiction factor has taken over again. I can tell by the tone of voice and the lackidaisical (sp?) attitude. I wonder if he/she only knew the pain and heartache I feel regarding all of this.....would it make a difference? I don't really think so. It never has before.

So, I continue to think................do I invite this person to our family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas? I guess it's the right thing to do, but is it something I want to be subjected to and is it something I want to subject my family to? I am so torn as this person is loved by us all, but some of us don't like being around him/her when the 'A' factor is present and obvious. And then again, maybe if he/she were unwelcomed to family things, it would get his/her attention. I am so confused.

The whole idea makes me so sad. It feels like someone I love so dearly has died and someone else has taken over his/her body. God, I miss that person so. I wish he/she would come back.

Movie Sunday
This is Lucy. She is my son's dog. Such a sweet little thing. I enjoy being her grandma and babysitting her when he needs me to. Just thought I would show you her picture. She is playing with Cosby in this picture but you can hardly see him because he blends in with the sofa, but he is at Lucy's feet.

Today I watched movies on Lifetime most of the day while sitting here crocheting. One of them was a movie called 'In a Private Garden'. I want the sound track to that movie. It was some very nice music. The movie was fair too.

Tom worked out in the yard and finished what he wanted to do outside this weekend. Tonight we watched 'TROY' with Brad Pitt. Really good movie.

Work tomorrow......YUCK! I am hoping to find out something about the Retirement proposal this week. Nothing else to report today.

Just Saturday
I stayed over another night at my Mom's last night, as I told you yesterday. She and I just lounged around this morning and took a nap this afternoon. Laziness.......such a pleasure.

Tom and I had pork ribs from Wayne's BBQ in Livingston for dinner tonight. They are so good and tender. I really enjoyed them......

We watched the movie "The Interpreter" with Nicole Kidman and Shawn Penn. It was a pretty good movie.

I am still working on my afgan and have put another few rows in it today. That's about all I have to report for a 'just Saturday'. Have a great Sunday.

Veteran's Day today
To be perfectly honest, I really didn't do anything Veteran's Day related. I had planned to go back home today around dark, but I could tell Mom didn't really want me to go and I wasn't really ready to go. I think Tom needs some time away from me and his job. He needs to be by himself for a while. I can't help but wonder if he misses me just a little, I don't really know.

Mom and I didn't do a whole lot today, just had my oil changed, went to the fruit stand, and Hobby Lobby. Then we stopped by the grocery on the way home. I made a Chicken Florentine Ring for dinner tonight for us and we dined and then watched Ghost Whisperer on TV.

I have started my crochet project. I gave up on the poncho for now, but I did start an afgan. It will be a combination of dark and light green. The light green will be stripes in it occasionally. I am making it up as I go along, so it may turn out weird. Since it will probably take me 6 months or more to finish it, I will have to take a picture of it then and show you all how it turned out.

Mom and I discussed my options for when I retire. I have just learned that Home Care in Baton Rouge, has people who are at home that answer the phones during the night time hours. I could do that, earn some extra money and never have to leave home. Even if it's a busy night, I don't HAVE to get up at any certain time the next day, so I could handle that! I am excited about it and will be checking into it very soon. I will also look at other jobs I can do from home, Since I have a good computer, and a lot of experience in a lot of things, I am sure there are good jobs out there that I can do. Mom says she might want to do something like that too. Maybe we can start our own little business and work together at it. She is still pretty swift in her own right. We will definitely be checking into some things. So if anyone out there knows of stay at home jobs, please let me know about them.

See y'all later......My little eyes are wanting to close now.
Good night.

Mother and Daughter Day
Mom and I had a great day today, but we are both completely worn out now. Mom is already in bed and I will be there as soon as I finish this blog.

We drove to Folsom, Louisiana today to pick up a child's table and chairs Mom bought for my great niece, Ainsley. Now Ainsley is only 5 months old, so it will be a while before she is able to sit at the little table and play, but Mom had to get it now she said. Anyway, we sort of got a little lost and ended up taking what I call the 'scenic route', but ended up not to far from where we needed to be. It was a nice drive, but we did see a LOT of hurricane damage. One thing was a steel roof wrapped around a pine tree about 30 feet up in the air. Steel now! Wrapped! It's amazing how much damage was done even that far inland.

After that little excursion, we went to Mandeville to do a little shopping. We went to Penney's and bought pillows (they have nice pillows) and mom bought a blanket for her bed and some rugs for her house. Everything was on sale for half price at penney's. We got some really good deals there. We had to go to Bed Bath and Beyond to get a Dust Buster for mom, because hers went kaput. I got tickled at mom because she kept calling the store, Bed Bath and Whatever. After I ribbed her about that, I said "it's B, B and B Mom", so then she started calling it B,B,B & B. All I could do is laugh.

I enjoy being with her so much, because we do laugh and joke with each other and it's fun. Maybe one day she will decide to go ahead and come live with me and Tom. That's in the plan for sometime in the future. For now she does just fine living by herself.

Well, I guess that's enough rambling for now...I am tired. Good night.

Busy, but pleasant, Wednesday
Gosh, I was really busy at work today and ended up leaving my desk a mess. I usually like to have my desk cleaned off before I leave, or at least have neat piles, but today, I looked up at the clock and it was past time to GO! Since I am not working tomorrow or Friday this week, I was so ready to get out of there, that I just shut down the computer, grabbed my stuff and jetted!

Tonight I am at my Mother's house spending the night. We get together from time to time and spend the night so we can visit, run errands, and see a movie. Oh yeah, and definitely go out to eat.

Speaking of eat: Mom cooked a Mexican casserole tonight for dinner and boy was it GOOD! She told me how to cook it so I will share it with you guys.

She browns a pound or so of ground meat. Then she crumbles up plain tortilla chips and places them approximately 1/2 inch deep in a baking dish, then tops with the ground meat. In the meantime, she combines 1 can Cream of Mushroom soup, 1 can Cream of Chicken soup, and 1 can of Rotel tomatoes in a sauce pan until heated thoroughly. She pours that over the ground meat, then tops it with Kraft Mexican blend shredded cheese. Then she bakes that in a 350 degree oven until the cheese is melted, about 10 minutes. YUMMMYYY!!!!! It was sohohohoho good!

Now, the dish is hot if you use the extra hot rotel. I think if I cook it at home, I would use a milder rotel, because it was quite spicy and Tom doesn't like spicy hot foods. The reason? One word...Yankee! He was raised up north... 'nuf said. Gotta love 'em!

Well, I am going to hit the sack! Y'all have a good evening now ya hear?

Have you ever?
Nothing really earth-shattering happened today so I thought I would do 'the list thing'. Here it is.

Christa and http://frogola.blogspot.com posted this on their sites, and I thought it was interesting to read and I can't resist a list so here goes. You're supposed to BOLD the ones you've done:

been fired

been in a fist fight

snuck out of your parent's house – heck no, didn’t want the wrath of Mom.

had feelings for someone who didn't have them back - haven't we all experienced that?

been obsessed with post-it notes – I have them everywhere!

squished barefoot through the mud – yes, and I don’t like the way it feels.

been lost – I got so lost once that I had to call my husband to find out where I was…he didn’t know either! LOL

been on the opposite side of the country

swam in the ocean - even been stung by a jellyfish and almost attacked by a shark!

cried yourself to sleep

played cops and robbers

recently colored with crayons

sung karaoke - I sing a LOT in my car but I don't count that as karaoke.

paid for a meal with only coins

Mondays! YUCK!
I am sure you all have figured out that I don't like Mondays. Mainly because I have to get up and go to work. That's no way to spend Mondays! Anyway, my Monday was fair to partly cloudy today and I don't mean the weather. I discovered something today about my relationship with a certain person in my life. I just sort of need to discuss it.
I got a phone call from this person today and ended up being physically sick after listening and trying to talk with said person. After I really thought about the conversation, or lack thereof, I realized that when I don't hear from the person, I think about him/her, but I don't worry very much. But when I do hear from him/her, my serenity is threatened and I get very nervous. I really don't want to see the person very often as I can't be around him/her for very long periods of time. The worse part is that I love this person so very dearly.
I guess I just never realized how much he/she affects my life negatively, or at least I didn't WANT to realize it. I had told him/her what I was doing after work today and then immediately regretted it. I found myself looking over my shoulder the entire time I was running my errands, thinking he/she would show up any minute and harass me. It's not that I think he/she would physically hurt me, but rather just upset me. It seems that this person can put me on a guilt trip faster than anyone else in my life. I don't like it at all because I have absolutely NO reason to feel guilty about anything! And then I feel very angry!
I have tried to tell him/her that I get upset, nervous and angry when talking with him/her, but he/she just doesn't understand why, or maybe just doesn't accept why. What do you do when you love someone so much and yet don't really like being around that someone? I don't really know, but I just needed to write about it today. Thanks for listening.

Home alone Sunday!
Tom had to work today....poor Tom. I was home alone all day. I watched movies most of the day, some on the Lifetime channel and one I had rented. Another quiet day, no phones ringing, just a lazy day. I really don't mind being alone, I rather like it sometimes. That way I can just lounge around and not feel guilty that I am not up doing something.

Once I retire, I will have lots of days like that, but I will find some creative things to do I am sure. Sometimes I wonder if I will work part-time somewhere, or just find things at home to do. I have always said I would never get bored, but would I? Who knows? I will just play that by ear and if I get bored, I will find a part-time job. I really want to take pictures and sell them, but I may not be able to make much doing that, so I will just have to see.

Tomorrow is Monday, another get up early and go to work day. I will write more later.

Silent Saturday morning!
Just because I was talking about how late I can sleep on Saturdays, I woke up at 7:15 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. I got out of my toasty warm bed and put the dogs out. It was so magnificently quiet outside. I sat down on the porch and just listened to the sounds of the early morning.

There was a couple of birds singing quietly like they understood that they should be gentle with their morning songs, so as not to waken the world. There was a dog barking way off in the distance and a rooster crowing somewhere. There were no cars running up and down the street, nor gravel trucks making there way to and from the gravel pits. The kids in the area were still sleeping instead of riding their 4 wheelers around their yards. So very quiet. I enjoyed sitting there listening to not much of anything. Maybe I will get up early again tomorrow morning to enjoy the silence.

My family (well some of us) met in Hammond this evening to have dinner together for a late celebration of Mom's birthday. My brother, Frank and his wife, my niece, Allison with her husband Tres and baby Ainsley, my nephew, Patrick and Heather and Allen, Tom and I and Mom. Ainsley is 4 1/2 months old. She is alert and so sweet. I got to hold her for a little while and she immediately fell asleep. Here is her picture.
Isn't she sweet?!

Orzo and wild rice and a movie!

Today is Friday, my favorite day of the week. That means I don't have to work tomorrow...I can sleep late tomorrow! Yippee!

I bought myself two Angels' Trumpet plants today, a pink one and a yellow one. Now I need to buy a white one and I will have the trio of colors. They make such a beautiful bloom which I understand is poisonous if you eat it. Why would I eat the bloom anyway? They are pretty to look at though. Here are pictures of the blooms. They really are gorgeous!!

Since I get off at 11:00 am on Fridays, about once a month or so, my friend, Cynthia, and I meet for lunch and then we go to a movie. Lots of times we kill time between the movie and lunch by shopping at the nearest Wal-Mart. Today we met at J Alexander's. We both love their grilled Salmon and Orzo & Wild Rice.

The Orzo & wild rice is a really pretty dish. It's got cooked orzo and wild rice mixed with chopped yellow and red bell peppers with tiny currents (they are teeny tiny raisens) parsley, corn and balsam and vinegarette dressing, served cold. Cynthia, did I leave anything out? It is such a good dish, Cynt and I had to ask the manager how to make it so we can try it at home. You would think....cold rice!? YUCK! But it is truly VERY good. Oh and the Salmon is excellent.

After lunch we spent about an hour roaming around in McRae's going out of business sale. We thought we might get some deals on things, but I can tell you there are NO deals. We think the raised the prices before giving you a 40 to 60% price cut which put it back at the normal price. The only thing I found in there that seemed like anything close to a deal were some clocks. I didn't buy any though. Cynt didn't find anything she couldn't live without either.

We saw the movie Prime. It was pretty funny. I enjoyed it. It stars Uma Thurmon and Meryl Streep. It's a definite chick flick, but that is the type of movies Cynt and I like. She's a great movie buddy because we love the same types of movies. Thanks for going with me Cynt! I enjoyed our day.

Can I crochet today?

Yes, You guessed it! I am trying to learn to crochet. One of my co-workers is teaching me and she is really teaching well. I have already learned to single stitch, single crochet and make turns. I have created SOMETHING that is about 12 inches wide and 1-1/2 inches long. Maybe it will turn out to be a winter scarf or maybe a potholder. Who knows? But I am learning....what can I say. I actually like doing it, it has a certain calming affect. I can just sit and mindlessly crochet. I like mindless stuff. Go figure! Maybe one day I will make one like this!

I am hearing some stuff about the special session of the Legislature. Things like incentives for people that are in DROP to go ahead and retire. Believe me, I will be first in line to do just that if the incentive is right! That would be wonderful! I will just have to wait and see what happens. I think the special session begins on November 17th or there about. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Have a great day!

Plain ol' Wednesday
Well folks today is Hump Day and I am glad. The weather is great and I am ready for another weekend. It's seems like all our weekends are so full these days. Tom is working 7 days a week right now, so I am spending my weekends just hanging around the house doing much of nothing.
Tonight I think I will go do a small amount of shopping when I get off. I really need to go to Mervyns or Sears. I think I'll drop by Cortana and get that over with. Ho Hum!

71 Years of Days

Today is my Mom's 71st birthday. She is the one on the left in this picture. My Aunt Peg (now deceased is on the right and the baby belongs to her daughter, I think) Mom says she never thought she would still be here, but of course, I am glad she is.

Mom is pretty special to me as all Moms should be. I don't think some of us realize what our mothers have done for us and how much they love us.

I know that my Mom loved me when I didn't love myself. She took good care of me when I was sick, tried to control me when I being a typical juvenile, and always loved me unconditionally.

Approximately 20 years ago, my Mom had a heart attack and had to have emergency bypass surgery. I have never been so terrified in my life. She had called me at work and said she needed me to come get her and take her to the doctor because she thought she was having a heart attack. I really don't think she totally believed that was what was wrong because she didn't want to go to the hospital, just to what I call a 'Doc n a box'. You know, the little 24 hour corner doctors. I raced from work to her home, picked her up and barreled my way back through traffic, and through red lights and past stop signs to take her there. It was a total of 8 minutes from the time I left work till we got to the doctor's office.

Well, this particular doctor was a very good one. He gave her nitro to see if it subsided the pain, which it did. Therefore, he sent her to the hospital by ambulance immediately.

They checked her out for a couple of days and then on the 3rd day of the hospital visit, she crashed and went into complete respiratory and cardiac arrest. That's when the emergency surgery happened. To make a long story shorter.....She came through the surgery just fine, after we thought we would definitely loose her, and she and I have repaired a lot of the hurt and disappointment that happened before that. I am happy to have my Mom still in my life today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! I hope your day was nice.
